Traditional Chinese Brush Painting w/ Lulu Yueming Qu

Learning Chinese brush painting is a fun and exciting way to learn about Chinese art culture. It is a timeless art skill that is very different from Western art styles. Participants in this Chinese brush painting workshop will be trained to use Chinese brushes, ink and Chinese gouache on rice paper. At the beginning of the workshop, Lulu will do a simple demo about how to properly hold Chinese brushes, how to use ink and Chinese gouache on rice paper, and then the participants will practice bamboo and pandas.

Aprender a pintar con pincel chino es una forma divertida y emocionante de aprender sobre la cultura artística china. Es una habilidad artística atemporal que es muy diferente de los estilos artísticos occidentales. Los estudiantes en este taller de pintura con pincel chino aprenderán como usar pinceles chinos, tinta y gouache chino sobre papel de arroz. Al principio del taller, Lulu hará una demostración simple sobre cómo sujetar correctamente los pinceles chinos, cómo usar tinta y gouache chino sobre papel de arroz, y luego los estudiantes seguirán a Lulu para practicar la pintura de bambú y pandas. Cuando los estudiantes estén listos, podrán dibujar su propio bambú y osos panda con algunas referencias proporcionadas.

Lulu Yueming Qu is a San Diego-based professional artist and art teacher who immigrated from China 8 years ago. She has over 20 years of Chinese painting skills and over 3 years of teaching experience. She received her Master’s Degree in traditional Chinese painting from The Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing (中央美术学院). She has another Master’s Degree in illustration from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. As an English and Mandarin Speaker, she would love to share her art skills with people who are interested in art.
