Free & Low Cost Programs for Title I Schools

ArtReach believes all youth deserve equal access to creative opportunities.  Each school year, ArtReach provides a limited number of no-cost visual art programs for elementary schools that lack the financial resources to fund a visual arts program for their students. We also provide an ongoing discount on total program cost to all San Diego County schools with a Title I designation. Read on to determine if your school is eligible for this program or submit an application.

Is my school eligible for a free program?

Any elementary school that meets need criteria may apply for our free program.  This program grants 10 days of standards based, skill building visual art workshops for up to 4 classrooms per day.  Selected schools receive a program at no cost for 2 years, then have the opportunity to continue their program on a low cost sharing model.

School Eligibility Requirements:

  • Title I designated school located in San Diego County
  • No formalized visual arts education on campus
  • No funding for visual arts education
  • Have a room on campus where art instruction can take place

How does a school apply for a free program?

You will find the fillable application form here.

If my school applies, are we guaranteed to receive a free program?

The number of free programs provided is contingent upon annual fundraising, grants, and donations.  ArtReach strives to connect at least ten schools each year to free instruction, and often exceeds this goal.  Schools that apply but do not receive programs will be placed on a wait list. We will contact waitlist schools as soon as funding allows.

How many years may a school receive free programming?

Schools may receive a free program for up to two years. After that, we offer schools to continue their program at a discounted rate.

Which students get the free instruction?

Each school determines the classes that will receive free instruction.  The ArtReach Program Manager will work with a contact at your school to create a schedule and discuss lessons.  Schools may choose to focus all lessons on a single grade level, choose classrooms based on teacher buy-in, or distribute the lessons over a few grade levels.  Up to 4 classrooms may receive free workshops.  Additional classrooms may be added at a discounted rate.

Are your Teaching Artists Volunteers?

No. All of our Teaching Artists make a living creating art and passing on their knowledge and skill to members of our community.  We value these creative professionals and are honored to have them on our team.
