Episode 1: Emotion Portraits

Lesson Overview: The Emotion Portrait project is designed to help students become more aware of their interior, emotional selves by expressing different emotions through color and pattern.

First, we examine the artwork of different artists, who use many different colors, patterns and techniques in their artwork. Students will brainstorm different emotions and then personally select how they want to represent the emotions in their artwork.

Emotions are abstract and can carry different symbolism for everyone. Students will take the lead in how they want to represent their emotions and work with abstract representation. They will finish with a collaged representation of their emotional selves.

As we close out a successful 2023 year, we invite you to join in our efforts to provide this invaluable tool for free to Title I schools with no existing arts education programs.
