Participants’ will have the opportunity to create multiple prints of different colors and participate in aspects of “social practice” in which artworks serve to create community spaces through sharing and trading.

Join us in the Garage Studio for a rug tufting lesson. Participants will create a small rug. Learn how to create and translate a design for the medium as well as learn the basics of tufting and begin filling in your designs.

Learn a simple way to add color to textiles and the processes of extracting dye from organic materials such as onion skins to add color to your favorite natural textiles or revive old clothing.

This workshop is FREE to attend!
Participants will create seed infused paper using recycled scraps and wildflower seeds native to southern California. When placed in an open natural area, these will spread the seeds and help our ecosystem.

Learn the process of screen printing, a method of creating an image by squeezing ink through a fine mesh silk screen, and print your own design on fabric. Bring a cotton bag or cotton t-shirt of your own.

Learn the sculptural technique of needle felting using colorful wool roving. Through using a special felting needle, participants can learn how to compact and compress the fibers down into a small sculpture or relief.

By exploring specific activities and reflective practices, educators will leave with actionable tools to seamlessly blend SEL and art-making, nurturing a supportive and creative classroom environment.

Participants will explore how these art forms can encourage self-expression, emotional processing, and social connection in the classroom. The session will also introduce the ArtReach Learning Portal, offering resources and tools to support SEL-focused art education.
