This vibrant mural at Darnall Charter School celebrates school pride, local ecology, and the power of student collaboration. Designed by lead artist Esteban Sánchez, the artwork centers on a playful pod of dolphins—a tribute to the school’s mascot—swimming through an underwater scene rich with kelp, sunflowers, and echinaceas. These floral elements reflect the abundance and beauty of the school’s flourishing community garden, tying the mural closely to campus life.

The mural was brought to life in collaboration with the YMCA Expanded Learning Program, with six 5th and 6th grade students contributing ideas and painting alongside the ArtReach Mural team during six total after-school sessions. Their creative input helped shape the final design, ensuring a meaningful connection to their school environment.

With bold colors and flowing movement, this mural honors themes of growth, teamwork, and pride. Located at the entrance of the school, it serves as a joyful welcome to all who visit Darnall Charter School and a lasting testament to the imagination and dedication of its young artists.
