A place to belong, a place to be loved. This is the central motto to La Mesa United Methodist Children’s Center preschool. It serves as a reminder to the community that all are welcomed to this special space. This mural was designed by Isabel Halpern using direct feedback from LMUMCC community and families. It was important to this community to have a mural that was bright, welcoming, and uplifting as it is located right at the drop-off and pick-up area that families use everyday- the first thing children see as they embark on a new and exciting day of preschool. This is shown with cheerful sunflowers, a bright orange sun, and groups of butterflies flying towards the entrance of the school. The hills in the background represent the City of La Mesa, also known as “The Jewel of the Hills” while two bold and simple doves fly across the sky. Together in unison, they represent family, spirituality, peace, and collaboration. We hope this mural serves as a cheerful pop of color for the entire La Mesa community and continues to remind all that this is a place that cherishes belonging, acceptance, and love.
