Kettner Blvd Beautification Project

This mural was designed by Ian Stiles-Mikl for SDG&E as part of the Kettner Boulevard Beautification Project. Spanning 127 feet along the perimeter of the substation, the mural was printed on Dibond and installed by Kitt Signs.

Given its close proximity to the San Diego Airport, the design draws inspiration from flight paths and the overlapping linework of the substation itself. With the constant flow of traffic along Kettner Boulevard and I-5, the site offered the perfect opportunity for a bright, abstract design that could catch the viewer’s eye in passing. The result is a dynamic installation that transforms the structure into a piece of public art.
