This mural was created through a series of 6 after-school mural education workshops with students from the YMCA Expanded Learning Programs. Students from Lincoln Elementary not only helped come up with ideas for the design but they worked with care and focus to paint the mural together. Designed by Mural Artist Partner Regan Russell, this piece serves to create a calming and peaceful environment in a shady and widely used part of campus.

The main imagery features the school’s historic pepper tree landmark and serves to represent a foundation for growth, safety, and belonging. Under the tree sits two welcoming lions (Lincoln’s school mascot) symbolizing friendship and kindness. Multicolored flowers in a minimal pattern round out the mural to bring vibrant color throughout. The flowers are a celebration of growth, joy, and diversity.

Together, the lions sitting in harmony remind students that Lincoln is a place where one can find kindness, safety, and community.
