Eagles Rising
Mural Artist: Regan Russell
June 2026
ArtReach partnered with Spring Valley Academy and AND1 to create two basketball court murals that celebrate school pride, teamwork, and community. More than 60 students contributed ideas and helped paint the final artwork, ensuring the courts reflect the spirit and identity of the campus.
The design by Mural Artist partner, Regan Russell, features two eagles, Spring Valley Academy’s mascot, arranged in a yin and yang-inspired composition across both courts. Together, the eagles create a visual connection between the playing spaces while representing balance, sportsmanship, and the idea that competition is strongest when paired with respect and teamwork.
Each eagle carries white sage, a plant native to the region, referencing the natural landscape of Spring Valley and acknowledging the Kumeyaay people and Indigenous history of the area. This element connects the artwork to the local environment while adding another layer of meaning beyond athletics.
Using the school and district colors, the design reinforces campus identity and creates a bold visual experience for students, staff, and visitors. The composition is striking from above while maintaining a sense of movement and balance across the two courts.
To honor AND1’s legacy in basketball culture, the iconic faceless AND1 player silhouette is incorporated within each eagle, creating an integrated brand presence within the artwork.
Inspired in part by the artist’s own experience playing basketball as a teenager, the mural reflects many of the lessons the game can teach: confidence, perseverance, friendship, and finding common ground with others. Through ArtReach’s community-centered mural process, students had the opportunity to shape a space they use every day, leaving their mark on a project that will continue to serve the school for years to come.
The finished courts are energetic, colorful, and unmistakably Spring Valley Academy, a place for collaboration, connection, and school pride both on and off the court.
Special thanks to The And1 Basketball Foundation for making this project possible and to Court Tech for providing the court paint for this project.
